St. Laurence Church is located in a residential area of the city of Calgary. After seeing photos of the church interior Don and Jim Anderson of Phoenix Organs expected a very difficult organ installation as the church appeared to be a typical modern church with such a dry acoustic that no organ would ever sound good. What a surprise upon arrival for the installation! This turned out to be an acoustic which is quite good for both music and speech - a rare find. Despite very wintery weather and treacherous driving conditions in November 2003, this Phoenix organ installation, the second in the area, was a great success. Steve Koning, Director of Finance for the Calgary Diocese was instrumental in finalizing the purchase of the new organ. Deb Koning, his wife, is Music Director of the church.
